National Day on 9 August is Singapore's most significant public holiday, marking the country's independence from Malaysia on 9 August 1965. The National Day Parade (NDP) — held at either the Padang or the Marina Bay floating platform — is the centrepiece event, featuring a military march-past, aerial displays by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, fireworks, and mass performances.
